What Is Shadow Work?
What Is a Shadow?
Carl Jung first used the term shadow to describe the parts of ourselves we hide, repress, or deny. As children, we all expressed a full range of emotions and behaviours—our "360-degree personality," as poet Robert Bly described. But as we grew, we learned which expressions were acceptable and which were not. We threw the unacceptable parts into a “bag” we’ve carried ever since—our shadow.
These hidden parts may include emotions like anger, fear, grief, or even joy, confidence, and creativity. Some shadows are painful; others are powerful. They all share that they were once disallowed and now lie out of reach until we choose to retrieve them.
What Is Shadow Work?
Shadow Work® is a personal growth process that helps you bring the contents of your shadow into the light - gently, safely, and with clarity. It’s a way to examine the beliefs, patterns, and defences formed to protect you and retrieve the gifts and energy hidden underneath.
Rather than pushing you to fix yourself, Shadow Work invites you to become more fully yourself - not by becoming someone new, but by reclaiming who you already are.
